Is my life what I pictured?

Daily writing prompt
Is your life today what you pictured a year ago?

Yes and no, I guess.

I don’t usually have a very clear picture of the future.

A year ago I thought I’d still be tutoring maybe, instead of what I’m doing now. I didn’t picture making a higher salary.

I also didn’t picture my circle of friends doubling since last year.

Or that I would be volunteer interpreting for a few months now.

But other things, I pictured as the same. Still living with my famliy, still driving the same car, going ot the same church. Reading and writing the same kinds of books.

That’s not really bad though. While there are still things I want in life that I don’t have, I have come to realize that I’m very, very fortunate in my life. I’m sure a lot of people would trade places with me to have what I have, a good family, good friends, and not lacking anything I need.

We all want more, and it’s good to have goals. We need to work for something to feel like we have a purpose.

But I’ve also realized that one day, I may wish I could have some of this time back, so I should enjoy it while it lasts.

How many of our plans ever work out the way we think they will, even when we get what we want? Life is too complex for us to predict, and that’s for the best, I believe.
