I’ve known a few good men, but the one who’s had the most positive impact on me probably is one I’ve never met.
C. S. Lewis’ books and essays have taught me a lot about how to think, reason, and order my own writing. I don’t think I’ve written a single thing (outside of fantasy) that didn’t quote him, and I know all my writing echoes his ideas even when I’m not quoting them directly.
He said the same thing about George MacDonald, so I’m sure he’d understand how I feel about it.
I’m not obsessed with him in a weird way, or anything, I just find his writing very helpful for explaining tough concepts in an easy way, and I know that’s how I got good at doing that, by copying him.
Anyone else have that experience as a writer?
